New Balance: the history
New Balance was founded in 1906 in Boston, Massachusetts, as a manufacturer of pioneering insoles. Founder William J. Riley wanted to offer a product that improved the comfort and balance of a shoe—hence the name New Balance. The brand has never abandoned this innovative philosophy. For instance, in the 1960s, New Balance created the very first running shoe with a waffle sole. Even though we started producing our sneakers globally, we have never denied our roots—our Made in Us and Made in UK collections are still made in our factories in New England in the US and in Flimby, Cumbria in the United Kingdom. Today, we are known just as much for our trendsetting lifestyle range as for our world-famous performance shoes.
